Gash Barka: Extensive soil and water conservation activities to be conducted in 2012

Office of the Ministry of Agriculture branch in the Gash Barka region indicated that plans have been mapped out to carry extensive soil and water conservation campaign including construction of dams and micro-dams in 2012. Barentu, 16 October 2011- Office of the Ministry of Agriculture branch in the Gash Barka region indicated that plans have been mapped out to carry extensive soil and water conservation campaign including construction of dams and micro-dams in 2012.

Head of the office, Mr. Meseret Gebremichael noted that the prior soil and water conservation programs were assessed successful and that the set out plans for 2012 are meant to boost the food security endeavors.

Mr. Meseret added that reinforcing associations of fruit and vegetable farmers as well as dairy activities including provision of select seeds to the farmers are part of the program.

Mr. Meseret went on to say that although the rain this year started late, enough rainfall showered to keep the farmlands in a promising condition and reminded the inhabitants that their participation is of utmost importance in making the programs  successful.
