Massawa, 25 October 2011- In a meeting he conducted to nationals engaged in fishing activities in Gelaelo sub-zone, the Minister of Marine Resources, Mr. Tewolde Kelati, called for stepped-up efforts towards ensuring judicious utilization of marine resources.
He further outlined the experience gained, challenges and obstacles encountered, as well as the achievements scored over the past 20 years since independence in the marine sector. He also indicated that the Government has put in place fish storage facility that would enable the local inhabitants improve their living standard, and that they would be able to sell their products at fair price.
Mr. Tewolde also noted that the country’s marine resources need to be exploited in order to benefit the nation and the general public. In this regard, that the fisheries association should play active role.
Likewise, the Administrator of the Northern Red Sea region, Ms. Tsegereda Woldegiorgis, said that the fisheries association has to reinforce its organizational capacity and enhance its endeavors.
Participants of the meeting on their part affirmed their readiness to strengthen their association, and called on the Ministry to extend the necessary support in their production endeavors.
