The branch office of the National Union of Eritrean Women in Gash Barka region has trained 205 women from the sub-zones of Dige, Mensura, Forto-Sawa, Gogni, Mogolo, Barentu and Agordet on modern handicraft, indicated Ms. Alem Belai, head of the branch office.
Barentu, 31 October 2011- The branch office of the National Union of Eritrean Women in Gash Barka region has trained 205 women from the sub-zones of Dige, Mensura, Forto-Sawa, Gogni, Mogolo, Barentu and Agordet on modern handicraft, indicated Ms. Alem Belai, head of the branch office.
Indicating that the union provides support to improve the life of women and especially those in need, Ms. Alem said that it is the responsibility of the union to enable women become self-reliant through vocational training.
She further indicated that similar training on modern weaving was provided to 16 women from 14 sub-zones and urged them to set up an association so that they become competitive in the market.
Trainees Ms. Emuna Yakob and Ms. Hawa Afa said that they used to be engaged in weaving at home, and expressed confidence that the training would help them produce competitive products and increase their income.
Ms. Alem said that women from the administrations of Aderde and Ingerne who received similar training are conducting promising activities through forming an association and advised other to follow their example and apply the knowledge they had acquired.
