Efforts underway in Mendefera sub-zone to increase breeding of queen bee

Efforts are being made in Mendefera sub-zone to increase breeding of queen bee, and thereby raise supply to customers, according to Mr. Habtom Laine, coordinator of animal resources in the sub-zone.
Mendefera, 11 November 2011 – Efforts are being made in Mendefera sub-zone to increase breeding of queen bee, and thereby raise supply to customers, according to Mr. Habtom Laine, coordinator of animal resources in the sub-zone.

He explained that queen bees are breed in three centers in the sub-zone and supplied to farmers at fair price.

Mr. Habtom further said that about 30 bee packs were distributed to needy women in Emni-Haili last year, and another 100 bee packs to disabled citizens, who have managed to witness improvement in their living standard.

It is also planned to provide training to farming communities in the sub-zone, he added.

Reports indicated that queen bee breeding activities are carried out in San Giorgio, Kilewlia and Mai-Tekela in Mendefera sub-zone.
