President Isaias Afwerki held talks yesterday with Dr. Waggih Azzam, President of the Confederation of African Cyclists and Mr. Pat Quaid, President of the International Cyclists Union.
Asmara, 12 November 2011- President Isaias Afwerki held talks yesterday with Dr. Waggih Azzam, President of the Confederation of African Cyclists and Mr. Pat Quaid, President of the International Cyclists Union.
During the meeting held at Denden Hall here in the capital,the President expressed appreciation to the efforts and cooperation demonstrated by both the UCI and the CAC towards developing the decades-old cycling in Eritrea, and explained the endeavors the Government continues to make to promote sports in the country.
The Head of UCI, Mr. Pat, said on his part that the efforts of the Eritrean government to promote the development of sports in general and cycling in particular are being witnessed in the victories scored by Eritrean athletes. He further expressed the Union’s readiness to strengthen relations with Eritrea.
Following the meeting, Dr. Waggih, President of the CAC, indicated that extensive discussion was conducted with President Isaias. He also explained that he managed to get acquainted with the great interest that President Isaias and senior government officials have in sports in general and cycling in particular.
