Keren, 14 November 2011 – The introduction of community-based sanitation campaign is bearing fruitful outcome, stated Mr. Tekie Habte, expert in public health at the Health Ministry’s branch office in Anseba region.

In a meeting he conducted with the inhabitants of the administrative areas of Zien, Kerh, Gerger and Geleb sub-zone, Mr. Tekie said that previously a number of diseases were witnessed due to lack of hygiene. But such problem is now no more thanks to the introduction of toilets, he added.

Moreover, Mr. Tekie explained that community-based sanitation campaign was introduced in 2009 at regional level, and so far toilets have been built in 36 villages. In this respect, he said that tangible change has been witnessed as regards to public health and water resources.

The Administrator of Zien, Mr. Ali Baryai, said that they have become an example for others thanks to the lectures provided by the Health Ministry. The Administrator of Geleb sub-zone, Mr.Teklebirhan Mihreteab, equally commended the active participation of the public in combating diseases resulting from lack of hygiene.
