The ponds and micro-dams in Nacfa sub-zone have impounded adequate amount of water during this year’s rainy season and are playing vital role in ensuring water supply for both the local inhabitants and livestock, stated Mr. Jabra Mohamed, head of the Agricultural Ministry’s branch office in the sub-zone.
Nacfa, 16 November 2011 – The ponds and micro-dams in Nacfa sub-zone have impounded adequate amount of water during this year’s rainy season and are playing vital role in ensuring water supply for both the local inhabitants and livestock, stated Mr. Jabra Mohamed, head of the Agricultural Ministry’s branch office in the sub-zone.
He also said that the 6 micro-dams and 17 ponds have a capacity to putting under cultivation over 34 hectares, and called on farmers to cultivate fruits and vegetables so as to meet market demand in the area.
Mr. Mohammed Idris, one of the inhabitants of Bakla explained that they were previously travelling from 6 to 8 hours to fetch water. At present, however, such problem no more exists as the micro-dam in the area has impounded sufficient amount of water. A total of 6 villages are obtaining water from one micro-dam alone, he added.
