Barentu, 18 November 2011 – In a meeting she conducted with the inhabitants of Aftiela, the head of social service in the NUEW branch in Gash-Barka region, Ms. Fatna Ali, stressed the vital significance of enhancing women’s awareness so as to combat harmful traditional practices.

She also called on female inhabitants in the area to apply the knowledge they have acquired through lectures regarding underage marriage and its negative consequence, among others.

Similarly, the head of the NUEW branch in Barnetu sub-zone, Ms. Akberet Tekeste, stated that impressive achievements have been registered in introducing smokeless ovens and ensuring mother and child healthcare.

The inhabitants of Aftiela praised the effort exerted by the Union’s branch in expanding smokeless ovens, and reaffirmed readiness to do their level best in related programs.
