Vaccination program underway in Gash-Barka region

A vaccination program is underway in Gash-Barka region aimed at promoting the health situation of livestock, according to Dr. Tekelezgi Tekie, from the Agricultural Ministry’s animal health unit. Barentu, 19 November 2011- A vaccination program is underway in Gash-Barka region aimed at promoting the health situation of livestock, according to Dr. Tekelezgi Tekie, from the Agricultural Ministry’s animal health unit.

He indicated that the vaccination program comprises prevention of animal disease resulting from insects and providing treatment to the affected livestock. Around half a million livestock are expected to receive vaccination, he added.

Dr. Teklezgi pointed out that the vaccination program is part of efforts to boost animal resource and food security program.

Mr. Zienu Kielay, one of the farmers, said that the vaccination campaign would make due contribution in improving the farmers in the area.
