Inhabitants of the central region carry out extensive cleaning campaign

Inhabitants of three sub-zones and 13 administrative districts of the Central region today November 20, 2011 carried out extensive cleaning campaign under the theme, “Let’s clean our city”.

Asmara, 20 November 2011- Inhabitants of three sub-zones and 13 administrative districts of the central region today November 20, 2011 carried out extensive cleaning campaign under the theme, “Let’s clean our city”.

Tens of thousands of inhabitants participated in the cleaning campaign which included cleaning streets, leveling dirt roads, as well as clearing roadside vegetations.

The inhabitants said that concerned authorities need to strengthen their due role in renovating public toilets and maintaining the cleanliness of the city in all corners.

Meanwhile, an art exhibition highlighting the cleaning campaign was showcased yesterday around the Merkato area here in Asmara and administrator of the central region, Mr. Kahsay Gebrehiwot opened the exhibition.

Artist Gidey Gebremichael said concerning the exhibition that the artistic works portray how municipality workers engaged in cleaning the city should be treated and particularly raise public awareness to maintain the cleaning culture.
