Hamelmalo sub-zone: Growth registered in vegetable farming

Vigorous efforts made by vegetable farmers in Hamelmalo sub-zone along with the advice of agriculture experts has led to production growth, stated Mr. Kafel Tekelesenbet, head of the Agricultural Ministry’s branch office in the sub-zone.

Keren, 22 November 2011- Vigorous efforts made by vegetable farmers in Hamelmalo sub-zone along with the advice of agriculture experts has led to production growth, stated Mr. Kafel Tekelesenbet, head of the Agricultural Ministry’s branch office in the sub-zone.

He indicated that 40% production growth has been attained, and that around 1, 300 quintals of fruits and vegetables have been harvested this year.

Mr. Hamed Idris Bekit, one of the farmers, indicated on his part that the vegetables and fruits he planted in 3 hectares are in good condition. He also called on vegetable farmers to fully heed the advice of agricultural experts.

There exist around 276 hectares of cultivation of fruits and vegetables in Hamelmalo sub-zone, reports added.
