Dege, 30 November 2011 – Solar energy is making vital contribution to the nation’s agricultural production.

Owners of 25 hectares of banana agriculture, Mr. Mohammed Idris and Mr. Mohammed Ali, said that previously they were carrying out agricultural activities with 8 water wells and 8 water pump generators. Today, however, following the application of 12 million Nakfa worth of solar energy, they have managed to undertake agricultural activities at reduced expenses.

Farmer Mohammed Idris said that solar energy has saved then from being worried about generator getting washed away by floods every year which was hindering them from strengthening production activities. They have also been able to produce banana the whole year, and expressed conviction that they would produce not only to meet local market demand but also undertake export ventures.
