Fishers in Southern Red Sea region strive to meet local market demand

Members of the Fisheries Association in the Southern Red Sea region are stepping up efforts to meet the growing local market demand, stated Mr. Omar Kasim, chairperson of the association.

Assab, 5 December 2011 –Members of the Fisheries Association in the Southern Red Sea region are stepping up efforts to meet the growing local market demand, stated Mr. Omar Kasim, chairperson of the association.

 

He said that though fishing activity is affected by change of seasons, the association has opened seven branch offices and is offering training courses in collaboration with the Ministry of Fisheries and the regional Administration.
Mr. Omar further indicated that ice making plant has been opened in Assab, Bereasole, Edi and Ti’o, all of which are making due contribution.

The branch manager of Fisheries Corporation within the Eritrean Marine Production Company, Mr. Kalid Mohammed Ahmed, explained that the Ministry is exerting efforts to narrow the gap between market demand and supply, and emphasized the role of fishers in applying modern equipments.
