Massawa, 8 December 2011- At an assessment meeting held in Massawa, it was stressed that integrated efforts are needed to raise the awareness and participation of women in education, as well as improving their living standard.
Ms. Mesuda Humed, Head of NUEW branch office in the Northern Red Sea region, said that women have vital role to play in socio-economic development, and hence vigorous efforts are required to eradicate harmful practices and social prejudices.
She further explained that women’s participation in national development program has gained momentum, and but still additional efforts are needed for raising their participation in various agricultural activities.
Ms. Mseuda also reminded to recognize the importance of education. She also called on partners of NUEW to make due contribution towards this end.
Reports indicated campaigns against harmful practices, the causes of Fistula, child care, women’s participation in education and handicraft training, among others is some of the programs undertaken this year.
