Educational service provided to remote areas of Gash-Barka region has played vital role in reducing illiteracy rate, according to the head of basic education unit in the region, Ms. Nejat Ibrahim.
Barentu, 13 December 2011- Educational service provided to remote areas of Gash-Barka region has played vital role in reducing illiteracy rate, according to the head of basic education unit in the region, Ms. Nejat Ibrahim.
She indicated that in line with efforts to provide such service to remote areas, the number of junior schools increased from 4 to 62 and elementary schools from 57 to 250 over the past 20-years.
Ms. Nejat further explained that 17 education centers have been put in place for the nomads in the region, and that around 1,500 students have been enrolled in these centers.
Boarding schools have been established in Forto-Sawa, Agordat and Gogne, she added.
