The Eritrean Telecommunications Company (Eri-Tel) is exerting vigorous efforts towards enhancing mobile phone service, according to the head of mobile phone service, Eng. Mihreteab Tesfagergios.
Asmara, 15 December 2011- The Eritrean Telecommunications Company (Eri-Tel) is exerting vigorous efforts towards enhancing mobile phone service, according to the head of mobile phone service, Eng. Mihreteab Tesfagergios.
He explained that the service used to be confined to the capital, but and now with the ongoing efforts to enhance the service 48% of the beneficiaries are from regions other than the Central region. He further indicated that around 75 mobile phone service-rendering centers have been established all over the country, in addition to other 45 units underway in remote areas that would operate through a solar-energy system, he added.
Eng. Mihreteab also pointed out that the previously buying and repairing of sim-card was time consuming and expensive, but now the price has been are reduced by half which would play significant role in increasing the number of mobile phone service beneficiaries.
As regards accounts, he said that the system that used to be suspended un- renewed monthly account has improved to 13 months duration, and can be recovered right after renewing the account.
Mobile phone service began rendering service in 2004, and has presently around 235 thousand beneficiaries.
