Mendefera sub-zone: Milk production registers growth

Dairy farmers in Medefera sub-zone organized in associations indicated that milk production has registered growth, according to the Agricultural Ministry’s branch office in the sub-zone.
Medefera, 17 December 2011-  Dairy farmers in Medefera sub-zone organized in associations indicated that milk production has registered growth, according to the Agricultural Ministry’s branch office in the sub-zone.

Mr. Habtom Laiene, head of animal breeding unit in the branch office, said that along with boosting milk production, vaccination programs are underway to secure the health of the animal livestock.

Moreover, around 249,000 quintals of cereals and crops have been produced in the sub-zone from cultivation on 15,479 hectares.

At an assessment meeting, the participants discussed issues of crop protection, soil and water conservation, as well as vegetable and fruit farming, among others.

Mr. Eyasu Asefaw, head of the Ministry’s branch office in the sub-zone indicated that efforts are underway to enhance cooperation between farmers and agricultural experts in the sub-zone so as to raise production.
