Keren, 20 December 2011- Places of worship constructed in Anseba region are making due contribution in fostering the spirit of unity and mutual respect, in addition to creating spiritual satisfaction, besides promoting tourism, stated the Archbishop of the region, Abune Yohannes Tewoldemedhin.
He explained that religious tolerance and unity among the Eritrean people is the outcome of a century-long struggle and sacrifices, and that such experience provide good lesson to the world.
The Archbishop further stated that the mosques and churches in the region are built with unique architectural design, and this will make due contribution in promoting tourism. Abune Yohannes also called on the general public to preserve the nation’s historical relics.
Likewise, the representative of the Eritrean Mufti in Anseba region, Sheikh Ali Mohammed Ali, said that places of worship constructed in the region play vital role in ensuring religious tolerance.
The Secretary General of the Catholic Church in Keren, Aba Ogbagaber Woldegirorgis, on his part called on the public to conserve culture and religious identity. He also lauded the development endeavors underway in the region and called on religious leaders to play due role to this end.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Evangelical-Lutheran Church of the Anseba branch, Pastor Paulos Adem, indicated that places of worship are the basis for morality, and called on religious leaders to play due role in national development endeavors.
The head of religious affairs in Anseba region, Mr. Mohammed Ali Idris, on his part explained that monasteries in the region possess books that date to 1,000 years and play vital role in promoting tourism.
