Fourteen people graduate from Ministry of Marine Resources

The Ministry of Marine Resources as part of efforts to increase fish production, this week graduated 14 of its members so as to strengthen the association of village fishermen.

In a speech he delivered on the occasion, Mr. Tewolde Kelati, Minister of Marine Resources, pointed out endeavors are being made, in cooperation with partners, to make available for the public the marine resources that have not been properly exploited. He further underlined the importance of the training in the daily activities of the graduates and the communication they would have with the associations for it related with the Marine Law and regulation.

Mr. Tewolde Weldemichael, Director General of the Department of Development in the Ministry, stated that since the training was aimed at promoting the skill of village associations, it would strengthen their production capacity, besides paving the way for establishment of big and dynamic associations.

A representative of the graduates on her part pointed out that the training would help the members of the association in improving and strengthening their fishing activities and noted the significance of the training in exploiting the nation’s marine resources.

Documents of the Ministry indicate that there exist 40 active village associations and one thousand amateur fisher-men in the Southern and Northern Red Sea regions.

It is to be recalled that the Ministry of Marine Resources gave training for 50 of its staff members regarding the inspection and protection of the sea.
