Farmers, Administrators and experts in Gash-Barka region have been called upon to exert concerted effort so as to reinforce agricultural activities.

Barentu, 26 December 2011 – Farmers, Administrators and experts in Gash-Barka region have been called upon to exert concerted effort so as to reinforce agricultural activities.

Speaking at a meeting conducted in Barentu, Mr. Meseret Gebremichael, head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch office in the region, called on farmers, administrators and agricultural experts to jointly work in soil and water conservation activities, among others.

The Administrator of Gash-Barka region, Mr. Musa Rab’a, called on agricultural experts to raise farmers’ awareness regarding modern irrigation farming and cattle breeding. He also reminded Area administrations and village representatives to harness natural resources at their disposal.

The participants of the meeting adopted a number of recommendations including that of taking punitive action against the reckless cutting of trees and for enriching water resources, as well as the construction of dam.
