Foro, 26 December 2011 – The farming community in Foro sub-zone have urged the renovation of micro-dams filled with silt so as to promote agricultural activities in the area.
They noted that the vital significance of constructing dams in view of the fact that their farm plots have been filled with silt from river waters flowing from the highland areas, and thus be in a position to make ample use of the available water resources.
The representative of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch office in the sub-zone, Mr. Ogbazgi Fisehaye, explained that there are plans to construct a dam so as to impound sufficient amount of water and put under cultivation the fertile farmland in the sub-zone. He further indicated that crops planted over 3,300 hectares in Zula, Afata Airomle, Malko, Wi’a, Gedem and Lehazie are in good condition.
There exist more than 7,000 hectares of potential agricultural area in Foro sub-zone, according to reports.
