Development endeavors in Gash-Barka region make due contribution in improving the livelihood of the inhabitants

At an annual assessment meeting conducted in Gash-Barka region, it was underscored that development endeavors underway in the region are making due contribution in improving the livelihood of the inhabitants, in addition to narrowing the gap between rural and urban areas. Barentu, 27 December 2011- At an annual assessment meeting conducted in Gash-Barka region, it was underscored that development endeavors underway in the region are making due contribution in improving the livelihood of the inhabitants, in addition to narrowing the gap between rural and urban areas.

Speaking at the meeting, the regional Administrator, Mr. Mussa Rab’a indicated that the main objective of the service-rendering and infrastructure facilities put in place is to improve the living standard of nationals and ensure social justice. He also called on concerned parties and the general public to make due contribution towards this end.

The Commander of the Western Operation Command, Maj. Gen. Haile Samuel, said on his part that the participation the general public is vital for the success development programs. He also reminded citizens to closely supervise and stop traditional mining practices that have been negatively affecting the environment.

The participants of the meeting conducted extensive discussion on the on-going development activities in the region, and pledged to enhance their participation for greater achievements in the development drive. They also urged concerned parties to follow up the situation regarding elephants and wild animals, among others.

The Administer further urged the concerned parties to work jointly in strengthening the endeavors to combat deforestation, strengthen the teaching-learning process, as well as controlling malaria and enhancing social services.
