As part of such efforts, drugs have been distributed to more than 54,000 citizens.
Mr. Fisehaye Gergis, in charge of control of non-communicable diseases, said that trachoma infection in the sub-zone was about 12% in 2006. At present, however, the level of infection has declined to 2% thanks to active popular participation in sanitation campaign, he added.
Pointing out that the Government is exerting relentless efforts to put trachoma under control at a cost of about 5 million Nakfa, Mr. Fisehaye said that the purpose of such endeavors is to eradicate trachoma from the country by the year 2015.
