Central region: Vigorous efforts being exerted to introduce water projects of fog accumulation

It is disclosed that in order to resolve the shortage of water supply in the Eastern Escarpment of the Central region, efforts are being made to introduce water projects of fog accumulation. Asmara, 3 January 2012 – It is disclosed that in order to resolve the shortage of water supply in the Eastern Escarpment of the Central region, efforts are being made to introduce water projects of fog accumulation.

The head of economic development office in the region, Mr. Yemane Abay, told ERINA that experiments have been underway since 2005 to introduce such water projects, and that satisfactory outcome has been registered in Arberebu’e Administrative area.

 

The water projects introduced in the Administrative area accumulate around 2,400 liters of water daily for the benefit of the inhabitants.  Mr. Yemane further indicated that the fact that the Eastern Escarpment is covered with fog and that obtaining water from fog accumulation could be attained in various areas, which in turn would provide water supply for drinking and agriculture purposes. As a result, two new experiments are underway in Shagirini locality, he added.

The director of Arberebu’e Elementary School, Mr. Idris Mohammed, said on his part that students of the school face of potable water supply shortage. However, with the introduction of the new method, they have been able to overcome such shortages, he further explained.
