Various programs implemented in Molqui and Shambuko sub-zones towards improving livelihood of farmers
A number of agricultural programs have been effectively implemented in Molqui and Shambuko sub-zones with a view to improve the living standard of farmers in the sub-zone, according to the coordinator of Tokor Integrated Community Project, Mr. Woldu Teklai.
Barentu, 3 January 2012 – A number of agricultural programs have been effectively implemented in Molqui and Shambuko sub-zones with a view to improve the living standard of farmers in the sub-zone, according to the coordinator of Tokor Integrated Community Project, Mr. Woldu Teklai.
In a meeting conducted with Area administrators, agricultural experts and beneficiaries, Mr. Woldu indicated that the main objective of the project is to back up efforts made by farmers to step up production, as well as reinforcing the effort of female farmers.
Furthermore, agricultural projects at a cost of 29 million Nakfa were implemented last year in the area that made vital contribution in improving the livelihood of farmers.Mr. Woldu further pointed out that applying rainfall-based farming activities, introduction of small range irrigation system, raising production rate and improving domestic feeding, are among the programs implemented, in addition to the advice given to farmers in remote areas. Besides, soil and water conservation activities that befitted about 20 thousand nationals have been carried out.
The participants of the meeting commended the implementation of the various projects and urged the Agriculture Ministry to ensure continuation of such programs.
