Agricultural infrastructure facilities in Southern region making due contribution in boosting productivity

Asmara, 8 Mendefera 2012 – At an assessment meeting the Agriculture Ministry in Southern region branch office conducted on 5 January, it was disclosed that the various agricultural infrastructure facilities are registering encouraging outcome.
In a report presented at the meeting, it was indicated that various tasks have been accomplished to develop agriculture in the region in the year 2011 at an expenditure of over 85 million Nakfa , and as a result the agricultural yield per hectare has increased in folds.
The head of the branch office of Agriculture Ministry in the region, Mr. Bahta Tedros, explained that the harvest of vegetable, fruit, milk and honey have rose by 19%,31%, 38% and 31% respectively, and that of eggs by 45%.
It was further emphasized the need to distribute animal vaccination, expanding renewable energy, reinforce efforts to prevent reckless cutting of tree and deployment of tractors on time, among others.
Likewise, 31 exemplary farmers and experts were handed certificates and money for their exemplary efforts.
