Dekmahare, 10 January 2012- The vegetable farms in Hanseyito, Dekmhare sub-zone, are making due contribution in meeting market demand in the capital, according to the manager of the farms, Mr. Ogbit Bahta.
He told ERINA that the farms in the sub-zone produce enough fruits and vegetables, in addition to maize, taff, barley and beans cultivated during the summer season. Moreover, production grew in 2011 has increased thanks to sufficient rainfall.
Mr. Ogbit further explained that the technical unit of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch office is making due contribution through the training and advice given to the local inhabitants. The farms have also opened employment opportunities to the inhabitants of the villages of Bolosto, Gaden and Hanseyito.
Vegetables and fruits cultivation expert at the Halhale Agricultural Research Center, Mr. Musie Fekadu, said that efforts are being made to solve shortage of water in the area through constructing a well and water reservoir, as well as spreading of pesticides.
The manager of the vegetable farms in Hanseyito, Mr. Ogbit, indicated that animal breeding and the construction of additional wells are some of the future plans of the farmers.
