Asmara, 11 January 2012 – The need to apply effective vehicles inspection on the part of the Administrative regions has been emphasized.

The head of the branch office of Land Transport in the Central region, Mr. Mengesha Mehari, explained that the office carries out vehicle inspection for all regions thus creating unnecessary queue. He also called on the regional Administrations to train the necessary manpower and facilities to perform the task themselves.

Mr. Mengesha also indicated that vehicle inspection would be carried out  for Diplomat, Code Number 1 and  2 , as well as driving school from January to March, and that of Code Number 3 and 4, Government and construction vehicles from April to June. No second chance would be given for those vehicles that fail to meet the inspection and would wait for six month to get the service, he elaborated.

Replying to complaints by clients stating that the cause of unnecessary workload is the limited time allotted, he said that the office is in a position to carry out proper inspection for 400 to 500 vehicles per day.

Mr. Mengesha further explained that the Ministry of Transport and Communications is making relentless effort to devise a lasting solution to the question of vehicle inspection, as well as replacing old second hand cars with new ones.

There exist more than 30,000 vehicles in the Central region, reports indicated.
