Mendefera, 13 January 2012 – A number of development endeavors are underway in the Southern region at a total cost of 786 million Nakfa to enhance social-services including the prevention of contagious diseases and strengthening mother-child health care, as well as ensuring social security. Reports indicated that assisting families of fallen heroes has registered satisfactory outcome, according to the director of social-services in the region, Mr. Tesfatsion Girmai.
He pointed out told ERINA that along with the aforementioned development endeavors vigorous efforts are being made to control the spread of Tuberculosis, and that 87% of 415 patients have recovered completely, whereas mother-child mortality rate has been reduced by 25%, and the vaccination of children and mothers has been enhanced. Mr. Tesfatsion further indicated that still more efforts are needed to control the spread of malaria and other contagious diseases.
He also indicated that around 27 thousand students have got educational opportunities, in addition to the construction of 9 Elementary schools, 4 Junior and 9 Secondary schools, 4 laboratories, 2 teachers training institutes, 13 classrooms and 16 residential complexes for teachers.
Mr. Tesfatsion further pointed out that along with government efforts to secure educational services to all; parents are called upon to supervise the participation of their children in education. He also efforts reminded teachers to step up efforts towards enhancing educational service to all.
