Bidho Dam playing significant role in boosting agricultural production

Bidho Dam in Debarwa sub-zone is playing significant role in boosting agricultural production through enriching underground water in the area. The dam has enabled the farming communities in the illages of Geza-Lamza, Temajula, Kakebda, Adebzage, Adi-Baro and Adi-Finin to apply irrigation farming. Debarwa, 23 January 2012 – Bidho Dam in Debarwa sub-zone is playing significant role in boosting agricultural production through enriching underground water in the area. The dam has enabled the farming communities in the illages of Geza-Lamza, Temajula, Kakebda, Adebzage, Adi-Baro and Adi-Finin to apply irrigation farming.

Reports by the branch office of the Agriculture Ministry in the sub-zone indicated that Bidho Dam that was constructed in 2008 has the capacity of holding 2 million cubic meters of water, and that 500 hectares in addition to the already existing 200 hectares around the dam are being put under cultivation.

The farmers said that they have managed to harvest three times a year thanks to the relentless endeavors made in soil and water conservation activities.

The head of the branch office in the sub-zone, Mr.  Debesai Andemariam, stated that the cultivated fruits and vegetables through utilizing the 36 dams and 33 ponds  in Debarwa sub-zone are being channeled to market. He also said that efforts are underway to produce animal feed in every garden so as to ensure milk supply.
