Efforts being made to reduce neo-natal death

Lectures are being offered to health personnel in different parts of the country aimed at reducing neo-natal death. Asmara, 25 January 2012 – Lectures are being offered to health personnel in different parts of the country aimed at reducing neo-natal death.

Dr. Zemichael Ogbu, head of the neo-natal unit at Orotta Referral Hospital, explained that the lecture began in Asmara in which health staff members from 8 national referral hospitals are taking part, is expected to reinforce endeavors to introduce neo-natal care in all the Administrative regions that was previously limited to Asmara.

He added that the Ministry of Health is striving to reduce neo-natal mortality rate to the lowest level, and is currently engaged in putting in place the necessary equipment towards setting up neo-natal unit in each regional Referral Hospital.

Pointing out that efforts to reduce Under-5 child mortality rate has registered impressive achievement, Dr. Zemichael said that so far neo-natal units have been set up in Mendefera and Keren which are making due contribution in attaining the set goal.
