Health Ministry says it would continue efforts to develop manpower

The Ministry of Health said that it would continue endeavors to upgrade manpower according to Dr. Andom Ogbamariam, director general of research and human resource development in the Ministry.

Asmara, 30 January 2012 – The Ministry of Health said that it would continue endeavors to upgrade manpower according to Dr. Andom Ogbamariam, director general of research and human resource development in the Ministry.

Pointing out that the health sector requires continuous improvement and education, he explained that vigorous efforts are underway at substantial investment towards ensuring quality health service.

Dr. Andom further stated that 150 health personnel have graduated upon completion distant learning organized by the Ministry in collaboration with the Scottish University of Dundee. He also explained that the graduation of health assistants at certificate level is serving as backbone of health service.

Dr. Andom also explained that at present 90 nationals are pursuing studies in pediatrics, surgery, obstetrics, gynecology,ophthalmology, anesthesia and psychology at PH.D and degree level, as well as 450 in Assistant Nurse Course at diploma and certificate level. Besides, students are pursuing studies abroad, Dr. Andom added.
