Inhabitants of Awenjeli sub-zone undertake soil and water conservation campaign

The inhabitants of eight villages of Awenjeli sub-zone carried out soil and water conservation campaign to combat erosion and raise production, reports indicated. Keren, 16 February 2012- The inhabitants of eight villages of Awenjeli sub-zone carried out soil and water conservation campaign to combat erosion and raise production, reports indicated.

They explained that the endeavors are in preparation for the summer reason, and pointed out that the members of the public are participating in the campaign in groups in the construction of terraces and water diversion scheme.

Mr. Saleh Ibrahim and Ms. Amna Ismael from the local inhabitants indicated that similar campaigns were undertaken last year and  which registered satisfactory outcome, in addition to making due contribution in investment towards ensuring food security.

The manager of Awenjeli Administrative area, Mr. Ibrahim Jim’e Mohammed said that around 200 manpower is engaged daily in the popular campaign, and that about 300 hectares have been terraced. The inhabitants also plan to renovate the road to Hagaz town.
