The supply of vegetables and fruits cultivated in Agordat sub-zone is stabilizing the market, residents explained.
Agordat, 22 February 2012 – The supply of vegetables and fruits cultivated in Agordat sub-zone is stabilizing the market, residents explained.
They told ERINA that beginning from the month of December they received enough supply of vegetables and that one kilo of tomato costs 3 Nakfa and one kilo of onion 12 Nakfa in addition to price reduction of a kilo of potato from 40 to 28 Nakfa and Bamia from 60 to 40.
They indicated that the cost of banana and oranges has dramatically been reduced and expressed satisfaction for the price reduction.
Mr. Omar Mohmmmed and Mr. Mohammed Idris, who are engaged in the trade of vegetables and fruits, on their part said that even though this is the perfect season for vegetables, the main reason for the increase in the supply of vegetables is the tremendous endeavor of the concerned gardeners.
In reference to the gardens in Gash-Barka region that were damaged by river waters 2 years ago, they said that they are getting a profitable outcome since last year.
The owner of the garden, Mr. Dawit Zere, said that the information and advice given by experts from the Ministry of Agriculture motivated them to work hard, and that all the owners of the gardens made gradual change towards developing their respective plots.
