Students and teachers of Halai Secondary School assume responsibility of assisting 4 martyrs’ families

The students and teachers of Halai Secondary School, Asmara, who said “it is our historical responsibility to assist families of martyrs that fell for our sake”, took the responsibility to assist four families of fallen heroes.

Asmara, 2 March, 2012- The students and teachers of Halai Secondary School, Asmara, who said “it is our historical responsibility to assist families of martyrs that fell for our sake”, took the responsibility to assist four families of fallen heroes.

The students and teachers told ERINA that they collected 24 thousand Nakfa by raising 1 Nakfa each every month and that they pledged to assist four families of martyrs by providing 500 Nakfa to each family. They also asserted that they would continue the noble program.

Students Naod Yosef and Adiam Tekeste said that assisting families of martyrs is every citizen’s responsibility and expressed satisfaction with participating in the program.

Likewise, students Meron Kiflai and Milena Kidane indicated that assisting families of martyrs is part of the national value and called on others to maintain it.

Mr. Simon Mehari, director of the school, explained that the initiative has dual objective and especially the message that would be inculcated in the minds of students, and called on other schools to emulate the initiative.

Ms. Tsigereda Afwerki, head of Martyrs Trust in the Labor and Human Welfare Ministry, indicated on her part that the initiative taken by the students of Halai Secondary School to assist families of martyrs is the first of its kind, besides being unique for it is aimed at bequeathing to posterity the culture of helping one another to posterity.
