Mendefera, 7 March 2012 – Fistula treatment in Mendefera Referral Hospital attests to the investment made to safeguard women’s health, disclosed NUEW members from Abashawul.
During a visit they conducted to the hospital, understanding the problem that Fistula causes to women, they appreciated the investment that the Government is making for the treatment.
Ms. Tsega Endrias told ERINA that the hospital that is bringing to an end women’s suffering is the result of the independence realized through heavy sacrifice.
Among the patients, Ms. Letekristos Woldehaimanot commending the initiative taken by women from Abashawul, explained that she is in good condition with the treatment she is receiving at the hospital.
Likewise, both Ms. Zeineb Saleh and Ms. Saba Getachew said that their problem has been solved after undergoing surgery at the hospital.
Dr. Habte Hailemelekot, head of delivery services, indicated that the main causes of fistula are early marriage, circumcision and improper position of the fetus during delivery, as well as and home delivery. He further indicated that visiting health institution during pregnancy and delivery minimizes fistula by 80%.
