Micro dams constructed in Debarwa sub-zone playing significant role in boosting agricultural production

The head of the Association of fruits and vegetables farmers in Debarwa sub-zone, Mr. Samuel Amanuel, said that the dams constructed in the sub-zone are playing significant role in boosting agricultural production through enriching underground water in the area. Debarwa, 9 March 2012 – The head of the Association of fruits and vegetables farmers in Debarwa sub-zone, Mr. Samuel Amanuel, said that the dams constructed in the sub-zone are playing significant role in boosting agricultural production through enriching underground water in the area.

He indicated that the Association which was established with 200 members in the year 2001 has now increased its members to 640 and that the cultivated 1500 hectares through utilizing the waters of the dam would be channeled to Asmara, Mendefera, and Debarwa.

Farmer.  Mesfin Kidane on his part said that expects to harvest abundant production, and that the cultivated Gieso and Lemon are in good condition.

Among the inhabitants of Adi Hizbai, Mr. Gebru Gebrehiwet, also said that he cultivated 5 hectares, including sweet potato and that he irrigated around 400 meters to raise his income. He further called on the Ministry of Agriculture to provide advise and motivationsfor further development.
