43rd SCSA Conference underway in Asmara

The 43rd conference of the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA) got underway in Asmara today with a meeting of the Executive Committee. Asmara, 14 March 2012 – The 43rd conference of the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA) got underway in Asmara today with a meeting of the Executive Committee.

Speaking at the opening session, the Eritrean Commissioner of Sports, Maj. General Ramadan Osman Aweliai, commended the Executive Committee for holding the conference here in Asmara.

Similarly, the Sectary General of the SCSA, Mr. Santone Kashiban, and the Honorary President of the SCSA, Rwanda Sport Minister, Sulatan Ibrahim lauded the efforts of the people and Government of Eritrea for the convening of the conference in the beautiful city of Asmara.

The participants of the conference later observed a pictorial exhibition on the state of sports in the country, before and after independence, headed by Sports Commissioner Maj. General Ramadan.

The meeting of the Executive Committee will continue until tomorrow, and that of the general conference of the committee will be held on the 17th of March, reports indicated.

At the three-day conference, 186 delegates from 54 countries that include ministers, invited guests as well as commissioners are expected to take part.

It is to be recalled that the 42nd SCSA conference was held last year in Maputo, capital of  Mozambique.

The SCSA was established in 1965 in Brazzaville, the Congolese capital, as “African Committee of Sports”, and the new name was given to it in 1976.
