The Halhale Agricultural Research Institute has finalized preparations for the distribution of select oil and wheat seeds to exemplary farmers, according to Mr. Teckle Tassere, researcher of wheat and barley seeds at the institute. Halhale, 18 March 2012- The Halhale Agricultural Research Institute has finalized preparations for the distribution of select oil and wheat seeds to exemplary farmers, according to Mr. Teckle Tassere, researcher of wheat and barley seeds at the institute.
Noting that the select oil and wheat seeds have proven productive and cope well with the climatic conditions of the country, Mr. Teckle told ERINA that with the newly introduced wheat farmers could produce more than 40 quintals of wheat per hectare and takes 4 months to yield.
He further added that the Halhale Agricultural Research Institute has previously distributed select seeds to farmers in Dekemhare, Adi-Keih, Tera-Emni, Adi-Logo and Halhale areas and managed to receive encouraging feedback.
Similarly, Mr. Mewael Semere, researcher at the institute, indicated that positive results have been recorded from researches conducted on a new type of spinach for production of edible oil. He added the research conducted revealed that the plant contains 42% oil from its entire content and grows well in highlands as well as plains areas. He also said that similar preparations are underway to grow the spinach on a larger scale.
