Inhabitants of Beleza voice readiness to properly utilize dams

The inhabitants of Beleza said that they would properly utilize and maintain dams that have been constructed in their respective areas in order to ensure food security and animal feed, as well as to develop vegetable farming.

Beleza, 20 March 2012 – The inhabitants of Beleza said that they would properly utilize and maintain dams that have been constructed in their respective areas in order to ensure food security and animal feed, as well as to develop vegetable farming.

They indicated that the dams have brought about big change in their lives and that they would work hard to ensure the benefit they get from them.

Ms. Letenkiel Ashebir and Ms. Himan Hagos appreciated the fish farming being introduced in the dams so that the inhabitants would become beneficiaries, and that they would conduct somber follow-up for their sustainability.

Mr. Esaw Tiku’e, head of fishery resources, explained that the fish farms introduced in 28 dams in 2008 are in good condition, and that pilot fish catching activities conducted in the dams of Beleza, Mai-Nefhi, Mai-Sirwa, Valinecki, Adi-Sheka, Shimangus Lailai, Tsaeda Emba, Teareshi ,and Himbirti have been successful. He further indicated that 50 quintals of fish were caught in 2011.

Moreover, Mr. Esaw said that training was given to 270 people, out of whom 10 are females from 10 villages  on fish farming and preservation, fish cooking, boat driving and on the use of nets.
