Farmers in Adi-Umer actively engaged in soil and water conservation

The farmers in Adi-Umer, Hagaz sub-zone, are actively engaged in soil and water conservation activities, and thus prepare their plots for cultivation before the advent of the rainy season. Accordingly, the farmers are building terraces and water diversion canals.

Adi-Umer, 22 March 2012- The farmers in Adi-Umer, Hagaz sub-zone, are actively engaged in soil and water conservation activities, and thus prepare their plots for cultivation before the advent of the rainy season. Accordingly, the farmers are building terraces and water diversion canals.

Two members of the inhabitants, Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Mohammed-Nur and Ms. Melka Maetub Mohammed, indicated that they are engaged in preparing their plots for cultivation and actively undertaking soil and water conservation activities. Moreover, they are assisting the disadvantaged and families of fallen heroes.

Farmer Hiwar-Sheik Idris on his part indicated that he had built 300 meters of water diversion canal in his field and that he would continue doing so until the onset of the rainy season.

Likewise, Mr. Mohammed Mohammed-Ibrahim explained that so far water diversion canals have been put in place on 300 hectares through deploying 300 manpower on daily basis. He further indicated that the participation of the inhabitants in general and that of women is encouraging.

Adi-Umer sub-zone which comprises the villages of Denbe-Tsegai, Guldmit, Adi-Umer, Dembe-Adi Tesfu and Dembe-Zeratsion is one of the 16 Administrative areas in Hagaz sub-zone with a total population of 1, 830.
