24th Anniversary of demise Nadew Iz observed

The 24th anniversary of the demise Nadew Iz that marked the turning point in the struggle for independence was observed in Afabet in the presence of Government officials and citizens.

Afabet, 23 March 2012- The 24th anniversary of the demise Nadew Iz that marked the turning point in the struggle for independence was observed in Afabet in the presence of Government officials and citizens.

In a speech he delivered on the occasion, Mr. Abdu Mohammed Telke, Administrator of Afabet sub-zone, said that the struggle the Eritrean people and their leadership had to wage for independence was unique and that the demise of Nadew Iz was a historical event that augmented the morale of the people and shortened the existence of the enemy.

He further explained that the liquidation of Nadew Iz was the result of the 10 year experience acquired in Sahel and that the EPLF forces were able to crush the huge heavily armed enemy force and liberate Afabet.
The observance highlighted different cultural, sports and other programs.

Nadew Iz Command was destroyed through the oppression the gallant EPLF fighters waged from 17 to 19 March, 1988.
