Forestation activities will be carried out this year in four sub-zones of the Central region, according to Mr. Kahsay Gebrehiwet, the Administrator of the Central region. All the sub-zones of the region submitted their plans of action during a meeting held on March 23 at the Municipality Hall here in Asmara.
Asmara, 26 March 2012- Forestation activities will be carried out this year in four sub-zones of the Central region, according to Mr. Kahsay Gebrehiwet, the Administrator of the Central region. All the sub-zones of the region submitted their plans of action during a meeting held on March 23 at the Municipality Hall here in Asmara.
According to the plan presented for the city of Asmara and the sub-zones of Serejeqa, Berikh and Gala-Nefhi, a total of more than 2 million 780 thousand seedlings will be planted in an area of 1,425 hectares. The seedlings will be planted in cooperation with communities, national organizations as well as governmental and non-governmental institutions.
The participants called on farmers to look for long term benefits and work towards making the campaign a success. They also reaffirmed that they live to expectations for the success of the program.
Noting that the sub-zones will conduct surveys and properly identify areas for planting and that legal action will be taken on residents found cutting down trees without authorization. The Administrator also called on concerned institutions and organization to participate in the campaign taking into account the master plan of the region and provide proper protective fencing for trees planted.
