Farmers in Habero sub-zone confirm to reinforce effort to boost production of fruits and vegetables

The farmers in Habero sub-zone, Anseba region, expressed that they would reinforce their efforts to boost the production of fruits and vegetables in order to meet market demands.

Habero, 27 March 2012- The farmers in Habero sub-zone, Anseba region, expressed that they would reinforce their efforts to boost the production of fruits and vegetables in order to meet market demands.

They indicated that previously horticulture activities were of limited capacity and that currently the activity is underway with wide spread capacity and that is the result of the Government’s encouragement for an effective land use.

From the farmers of Kar-Obel, Mr. Mohammed-Ali Hamid indicated that with the fruits and vegetable production their livelihood has been improved, and that it has contributed to stabilizing market demands.

Mr. Mohammed-Ali Ibrahim on his part indicated that their produce is provided to the Aretai semi-urban center with fair prices and that they are encouraged by the outcome.

Mr. Girmatsion Kesete, head of Ministry of Agriculture branch in Habero sub-zone, explained that the vegetable farming activities in the sub-zone is growing and that the infrastructure put in place by the people and Government is bringing about a positive change in the area.

It is to be recalled that there exists 60 hectares of vegetable farms along the banks of Anseba River, in the areas of Filfile, Gelet, Kar-Obel, Fizan and Melmelti.
