Tserona, 30 March 2012 – Residents of Tserona semi-urban centre have been undertaking soil and water conservation activities over the past 2 weeks in line with the plan designed to establish wood enclosures by fostering afforestation endeavors.

Mr. Shishay Tadesse, an agronomist in the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Tserona sub-zone stated that in the program drawn up to construct 132 Km.-long terraces and 7 Km. drainage diversions, 1,400 people are participating daily in two stations of Tserona and Deki-Liefai.

Mr. Shishay further explained that the plan to establish wood enclosures was charted in 2012 and that the community is working hard to implement it before the onset of the rainy season.

Ms Zinab Yemane, a team leader of the participants, on her part expressed confidence that the area would soon be covered with vegetations in line with the soil and water conservation activities being undertaken.

Likewise, Mr. Hagos Gebrehiwet and Ms Senait Afewerki, indicated that the community has given priority to the plan as it is part of the national plan to ensure food security and a legacy to future generations.

Abraham T’umzgi, a student in the sub-zone, also expressed conviction that social advantage of ecological conservation is by and large more important than the environmental value, and that the participation of students in the scheme is a good means to inherit values.
