The inhabitants of Ser’e, Mai-Aini sub-zone, are undertaking campaigns to construct water diversion canal for effective utilization of irrigation water from Qelhi River. Mai-Aini, 2 April 2012 – The inhabitants of Ser’e, Mai-Aini sub-zone, are undertaking campaigns to construct water diversion canal for effective utilization of irrigation water from Qelhi River.
Mr. Tesfai Hagos, Administrator of Ser’e Administrative area, who stated that the popular activities were being undertaken twice a week starting in mid-January, pointed out that 300 people are taking part in the campaign. He also explained that the community has good experience in raising harvest though employing water diversion schemes.
Among the participants of the campaign, Ms Weini Tesfamichael and Ms Kibra Hailemihcael, recommended use of machinery for better outcome in irrigation farms in the area.
Mr. Tesfamariam Hadgu on his part expressed confidence that effective utilization of the Qelhi River would boost agricultural production in the area, and called on agriculture experts to provide the necessary consultation to the farming community.
The water diversion canal is expected to cultivate 200 hectares in the Hazemo plains.
