A blind veteran fighter who has cultivated 1,500 orange trees, vegetables and green feed on 150 hectares in Mai-Aini sub-zone expressed confidence that blindness has never been a dilemma in his farming endeavours.
Mai-Aini, 3 April 2012 – A blind veteran fighter who has cultivated 1,500 oranges, vegetables and green feed on 150 hectares in Mai-Aini sub-zone expressed confidence that blindness has never been a dilemma in his farming endeavours.
The disabled citizen, Tewolde Beyene, disclosed that he started farming by investing 10,000 Nakfa which was extended to his wife for rehabilitation and that they have managed to extend their farm considerably through hard work. He also explained that they have started supplying oranges to the market and commended the Agriculture Ministry for ensuring support and motivation to them.
Mr. Tewolde’s son, Mussie, who supports his father constantly, testified that his father’s discipline of hard work and enthusiasm is exemplary and that it is the basis for the financial improvement and values of the family.
Mai-Aini sub-zone, while the Mereb River crosses significantly, is endowed with suitable climate for fruits and vegetables farming.
