The inhabitants of Goluj sub-zone are undertaking soil and water conservation activities. Mr. Dawit Solomon, head of irrigation development and natural resources department in the sub-zone, explained that the Agriculture Ministry has been engaged in promoting agricultural extension tasks. He also indicated that members of the community are building water diversion canals through the guidance of experts so as to ensure efficient utilization of rain-fed farming.
Goluj, 4 April 2012 – The inhabitants of Goluj sub-zone are undertaking soil and water conservation activities. Mr. Dawit Solomon, head of irrigation development and natural resources department in the sub-zone, explained that the Agriculture Ministry has been engaged in promoting agricultural extension tasks. He also indicated that members of the community are building water diversion canals through the guidance of experts so as to ensure efficient utilization of rain-fed farming.
Mr. Teklom Tesfagergish, who managed to build diversion canal for his farmland through consultation with experts, expressed confidence that the local inhabitants would raise their yield commensurate with the prevailing full understanding regarding the advantages of soil and water conservation.
Mr. Andebirhan Yemaneab, resident of Goluj semi-urban center, indicated on his part that the community’s lack of understanding in putting into effect proper method of soil and water conservation on plains had caused decline in the volume of harvest. He further noted that through the on-going agricultural extension activities and the community’s dedication to conservation of soil and water, better harvest is expected in the future.
