The Health Ministry stated that successful accomplishments have been made in control and eradication of vaccination-prevented diseases. Mr. Tedros Yihdego, head of immunization Program in the Ministry, who stated that more than 98% of children in the country were immunized against polio, measles and tetanus in 2011, further explained that the children were also inoculated with Vitamin “A”.
Asmara, 4 April 2012 – The Health Ministry stated that successful accomplishments have been made in control and eradication of vaccination-prevented diseases. Mr. Tedros Yihdego, head of immunization Program in the Ministry, who stated that more than 98% of children in the country were immunized against polio, measles and tetanus in 2011, further explained that the children were also inoculated with Vitamin “A”.
Accordingly, Mr. Tedros notified that Eritrea has been free from measles and tetanus in addition to polio and that reinforcement of quarantine activities is vital to prevent new infections as the neighboring countries are not free from the diseases.
The Health Ministry says that health stations render regular vaccination services and that tactical immunization campaigns are made to reach communities who lead nomadic pattern of living.
Mr. Tedros further lauded the popular participation witnessed in the program and called for more efforts to sustain the achievement already registered.
