The Association of Vegetables and Fruits Farmers in Debarwa sub-zone explained in a meeting it conducted that it supplied 390,000 quintals of vegetables to the market in the past year. Debarwa, 6 April 2012 – The Association of Vegetables and Fruits Farmers in Debarwa sub-zone explained in a meeting it conducted that it supplied 390,000 quintals of vegetables to the market in the past year.
Mr. Samuel Amanuel, Chairman of the Association, disclosed that, based on the farmers’ knowledge-based efforts, they have managed to register commendable result. He also explained that cultivation of 27 hectares of green feed contributed to enhanced milk production in the locality and the Southern region in general.
Meanwhile, he expressed confidence that the Association is in a position to overcome shortcomings itself for working with transparency and harmony.
Ms. Leul Bisrat, Administrator of Debarwa sub-zone, asserted that the Association is making due contribution in endeavors to ensure food security, and that the farmers should translate into practice instructions and advices given by the Administration.
The Association of Vegetables and Fruits Farmers in Debarwa sub-zone, which has 640 members that set up in March 2001 is carrying out irrigation farming on 2,966 hectares.
